Financing a smoking system: Costs, depreciation, leasing
The investment in a smoking system is manageable and predictable: the Beelonia price ladder ranges from 2,698.92 € (F2-70/60 XL) to 7,457.73 € (F4) and up to 23,924.95 € (KR6-100) – plus equipment. Financing is classic: purchase from own funds or bank loan, alternatively leasing/hire purchase for liquidity. For tax purposes, the system runs as a movable asset via depreciation (AfA) – and amortisation often pays for itself faster than expected through the refinement margin.

Reading tip: Which system suits which business – the technical preliminary stage of the financing question – is clarified in the system planning.
The investment ladder at a glance
| Level | System | Investment | Typical business |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entry | F2-70/60 XL | 2,698.92 € | Farm shop, side business |
| Professional class | F4 / F5 / F6 | 7,457.73–15,224.86 € | Direct marketer, fish farm |
| Production | F6-100 + smoke generator + control | ~19,600–21,900 € | Butcher's shop with cold smoke program |
| Combi system | KR6 / KR6-100 | 21,252.21 / 23,924.95 € | Sausage production, cooked cured meats |
To put market prices into perspective: comparable industrial systems from well-known manufacturers cost 40,000–50,000 €. The craft class is deliberately in a different price league – with comparable chamber performance.

Purchase, leasing or hire purchase? Purchasing suits the lifespan: a V2A stainless steel (AISI 304) system works for decades – longer than any financing runs – and remains repairable thanks to spare parts supply. Leasing and hire purchase protect liquidity in the start-up phase and make the instalment a predictable monthly figure; such models are common via your house bank or leasing company. Farmers also check low-interest programmes from the agricultural development bank for marketing investments – the bank clarifies the conditions.
How much is the monthly instalment?
The instalment depends on three decisions: hire purchase or leasing with residual value, deposit yes or no, and the term. Because the interest rate is variable, there is no blanket answer – but a reliable orientation. For a hire purchase of 20,000 € over four years, the instalment is around 511 € per month.
| System value | Hire purchase, 4 years |
|---|---|
| 5,000 € | approx. 128 € / month |
| 10,000 € | approx. 256 € / month |
| 20,000 € | approx. 511 € / month |
Attention: example values for orientation, not an offer. The interest rate is variable and depends on the type of contract, deposit and term. If your system lies between two rows, the instalment is also in between: for an F4 at around 7,500 €, it is about 190 € per month. Longer terms lower the instalment but increase the total costs.
Hire purchase or leasing with residual value? With hire purchase, the system becomes your property at the end of the term, so the instalments are correspondingly higher. With leasing with residual value, a final payment remains open at the end – the monthly burden drops, and the decision on takeover is postponed. Which variant suits you better depends on your liquidity planning and tax arrangements.
How to get a binding offer: We need three details – type of contract, deposit yes or no, and the desired term – and use these to enquire with the leasing company. You receive an offer with term, interest rate and exact monthly instalment, conclude the contract there, and we deliver after the contract is returned. Until the end of the term, the system belongs to the company.
Put this figure next to the amortisation calculation below: a monthly instalment of around 190 € against a four-figure monthly gross profit from the refinement margin – that is the comparison that matters for the investment decision.
Tax aspects: The system is a movable asset and is depreciated on a straight-line basis over the normal useful life of the business; depending on the situation, investment deduction amounts and special depreciation may be considered. The specific arrangement – depreciation period, investment deduction, financing form – is a matter for your tax advisor; the Beelonia offer provides the numerical basis.
Amortisation: a sample calculation
The lever is the refinement margin: anyone who smokes an F4 batch of trout (approx. 220 fish) weekly and markets them directly typically generates a four-figure monthly gross profit via the refinement markup – the system thus pays for itself in the first to second year. The variables are sales channel and capacity utilisation: an oven that only runs on Saturdays takes longer to pay off; one that combines fish, bacon and Christmas business pays off faster. Planning conservatively means calculating with half the desired capacity utilisation – if the calculation still holds up then, it is safe.
Frequently asked questions about financing
Are there subsidies for smoking systems?
Direct grants are rare; relevant are low-interest investment loans (e.g. agricultural development bank programmes for farmers) and regional marketing subsidies. Your house bank or chamber of agriculture knows about current programmes – ask before ordering.
How well does a used Beelonia system hold its value?
Very well – V2A stainless steel (AISI 304) systems with spare parts supply hold their value; which is exactly why buying new is also worthwhile. The weighing up of new vs. used is calculated in the TCO comparison.
What is included in the total investment?
System + equipment (control, smoke generator, smoking trolley) + ancillary costs (exhaust air, electrics, room adaptation if necessary). A reliable Beelonia offer with all items is the basis for your bank and tax advisor – the consultation is free of charge.
